Guiding Principles |
A child’s needs are best met with a caring and loving family. FCSVA recruits and trains staff and families acknowledging this truth.
We recruit select and develop families with the following competencies in caring for children: protection and nurturance; meeting developmental needs; supporting primary family needs; connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships that last a lifetime; and serving on a professional team.
We serve children and their families at their point of need. This requires a thorough review of the child’s intake information and diligent planning for the child’s care, short and long term planning. This begins from the day a child is referred for placement in our care. Upon placement or before if possible, FCSVA begins an assessment of the child’s strengths and needs. The assessment assists in identifying resources and programming that may be necessary to meet the child’s needs as well as identifying the same for our foster families who care for our children.
In order to ensure prompt access and excellence services provided to our children and families, FCSVA provides additional resources to include: intensive case worker-to-child ratios; psychologist, psychiatrist and therapist consultation; community advocate assistance; adoption services; crisis intervention; family preservation; transitional living; agency alliances; education advocacy, on-going family training, etc.
